BRAC reaches one in six residents in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, May 18: BRAC on Monday unveiled its annual report in the port city, highlighting the scale and future direction of its development initiatives.

According to the report, BRAC has reached one in every six residents in the Chattogram division through its development programmes spanning health, education, financial inclusion, disaster and crisis response, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), climate resilience, migration, and skills development.

The report said the organisation aims to create employment opportunities for one million people across Bangladesh over the next five years. It will place special emphasis on inclusive development focused on women and youth, quality education, financial inclusion, primary healthcare, and strengthening climate resilience.

It also noted that 15,984 staff members are currently implementing BRAC's programmes across the Chattogram Division, with women accounting for 37 per cent of the workforce. These initiatives are being carried out through 915 offices under social development programmes and 39 offices under social enterprises.

KAM Morshed, Senior Director of Advocacy, Communications and Engagement at BRAC, outlined the organisation's ongoing initiatives in the division, its five-year strategic priorities, and its development approach.

Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation Dr Shahadat Hossain attended the event as the chief guest.

Senior officials from the local administration and police, academics, political leaders, civil society representatives were present at the event and shared their views and recommendations.
