BSTI to formulate MEPS standards for LED lamps

A technical workshop on 'Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for LEDs and Luminaries', jointly organised by Clasp and BSTI, was held at a city hotel on Thursday.

Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) is going to formulate standards for LED lamps designed to produce more light with less electricity, focusing on the issue of energy savings, says a statement.

To this end, a technical workshop on 'Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for LEDs and Luminaries' was held at the Westin Hotel in the capital on Thursday.

The seminar, jointly organised by US-based non-profit organisation Clasp and BSTI, was attended by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Maqsura Noor as the chief guest, BSTI Director General (Grade-1) S M Ferdous Alam, BSTI Director (Standards) Md Saidul Islam and Chairman of BSTI's Technical Committee for the Formulation Of Electricity Standards Dr. Omar Farook.

Experts from various LED lamp manufacturing companies in the country, including members of the technical committees of BSTI, spoke at the technical session of the seminar.
