For the first time in the history of public procurement in Bangladesh, the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) has provided four-day training on electronic government procurement (e-GP) to a foreign delegation at CPTU in the city, according to a press release.

A nine-member Ethiopian e-GP team received the training from March 18 to 21, 2019 from experts at CPTU of IME Division under the Ministry of Planning.

Earlier, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Afghanistan and Zambia visited the e-GP system of Bangladesh at CPTU. But the orientation for those countries was not as extensive as for Ethiopia that has started e-GP implementation.

The Ethiopian team met Secretary in Charge, IME Division, Ministry of Planning, Abul Mansur Md Faizullah at his office. Director General (DG) of CPTU Md Ali Noor chaired a meeting with the delegation at CPTU.

DG of the Public Procurement and Property Disposal Service Marta Luwigi led the Ethiopian delegation.

Other members were from Ministry of Finance, National Bank of Ethiopia, Ministry of Innovation and Technology, Ethiopian Road Authority, Public Procurement and Property Administration Agency and the World Bank Ethiopia Office.

Senior System Analyst Md Mosharraf Hussain, Senior e-GP Adviser Ashfakul Islam of CPTU, Deputy Team Leader of e-GP Operation and Maintenance Nazmul Islam Bhuiyan and Trainer Hasan Mahmud of Dohatec conducted various sessions on e-GP for the Ethiopian team. The DG of CPTU concluded the training programme on Thuesday.

The CPTU has been implementing e-GP with support from the World Bank since 2011 as part of the government's vision for digitising all public services to improve the public service delivery, the release added.
