Ctg airport posts record revenue

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 15: The Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram posted a record amount of revenue in the fiscal year 2024-2025. The revenue of the airport stood at over Tk 2.70 billion (270.49 crore) in the last fiscal year, about Tk 330 million (33 crore) more than that in the previous fiscal year.

Public Relations Officer of the Shah Amanat International Airport Engineer Ibrahim Khalil confirmed this.

Engineer Ibrahim Khalil said, "The Shah Amanat International Airport has achieved record revenue this time. It can be said that it has achieved record revenue since its establishment. The highest revenue this time has been generated from various sectors including the increase in the number of passengers and collection of dues. At the same time, passenger traffic has also increased significantly."

In the fiscal year 2024-2025, the revenue collected was Tk 2.70 billion (270.49 crore), while the expenditure was Tk 400 million (40 crore). In 2023-2024, the income was Tk 2.37 billion (237 crore) and the expenditure was Tk 360 million (36 crore). In 2022-2023, the income was Tk 2.25 billion (225 crore) and the expenditure was Tk 330 million (33 crore). In the fiscal year 2021-2022, the income was Tk 790 million and the expenditure was Tk 270 million. In the fiscal year 2020-2021, the income was only Tk 300 million and the expenditure was Tk 260 million.

The airfield was built in the early 1940s under the British rule. Known as Chittagong Airfield during Second World War, the airport was used as a combat airfield. It officially became a Bangladeshi airport in 1972 after Bangladesh's liberation war. At first, it was mainly used for connecting the capital Dhaka and commercial capital Chattogram, but in the mid-1990s Bangladesh Biman started international flights from here to Dubai and a few Saudi Arabian cities and the airport officially became an international airport.
