Weekly Tea Market

Demand for tea sags on lower quality

February 21, 2019 00:00:00

The quality of tea was by and large inferior this week which led to lower demand from all sections in the market as the local tea auction was held on Tuesday.

In a statement the National Brokers Ltd said prices consequently eased with heavy withdrawals.

Few select lines of good liquoring varieties received good support and were dearer.

CTC Leaf: 21,398 packages of current season and 190 packages of old season teas on offer met with less demand at lower rates.

Brokens: A handful of clean liquoring Brokens met with good demand and were mostly firm.

Their Mediums met with less competition and eased.

The Plainest were firm whilst end of season varieties were easier with more withdrawals.

Fannings: Good liquoring fannings met with a fairly good competition and were firm to slightly dearer. Their Mediums eased following quality.

Plainer types were about while the end-of-season sorts were easier with more withdrawals.

CTC Dust: 3,813 packages of the Current Season and six packages of Old Season Teas on offer met with a good competition and sold at around last levels.

The Remainder also sold well and were barely steady to irregularly easier.

Local buyers were active on Medium and Plainer varieties. Blenders operated on good liquoring teas.
