Sustainable dev, political peace in Bangladesh important to India

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 18: Sustainable development and political peace in Bangladesh are important to India, said Dr Rajiv Ranjan, Indian Assistant High Commissioner in Chattogram.

He made the remark while addressing as the special guest a views exchange meeting between a delegation of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the board of directors of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the port city on Monday evening.

CCCI President Mahbubul Alam chaired the meeting held at the CCCI's World Trade Center (WTC).

CCCI chief Mr Alam said cooperation among trade bodies and businesses people of India and Bangladesh will help further increase export and import between the two neighbouring countries.

At the meeting, the CII delegation was led by its director Ameet Kumar.

CCCI directors Anjan Shekhor Das and Ahid Seraj Swapon, former Senior Vice President (SVP) Omar Hajjaj, ex-director Mahfujul Haque Shah, Director of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Moazzem Hossain, Deputy Director of Bangladesh Bank Ashiful Alam, Assistant Director of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Morshedul Haque, Chittagong Women's Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CWCCI) SVP Abida Mostafa, Professor of Chattogram University Rejaul Karim and Owner of Universal Agro Limited Tipu Sultan Sikdar spoke at the event, among others.

'Our government (govt. of India) has extended hands to help develop the economy of Bangladesh,' said Mr Rajeev Ranjan.

Terming the friendship between India and Bangladesh historical one, he said India is a good friend of Bangladesh since Bangladesh's Liberation War in 1971.

He also said that sharing of knowledge is very important and inspiring for the business people and industrialists of the both the countries.

The CII delegation also included Indian business leaders Surendra Srivastava and Siddik Akter.
