Synesis IT was recently recognised as the winner for their Central Biometric Verification and Monitoring Platform (CBVMP) in a category of Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2024.
Previously, the technology solutions company developed CBVMP for Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). The global recognition is one of a number of international recognitions received by the company, according to a statement.
A total of 180 teams from 20 countries, including China, Australia, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, competed for the award. Among them, three Bangladeshi organisations, which participated in the APICTA Awards 2024 besides Synesis IT, are Social AI, Smart Trend Digital, and Ixra (ISORA) Solutions.
Synesis IT became the winner in the 'Digital Government' category under the 'Public Sector and Government' section.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Major General (Retd) Emdad-ul-Bari said, "Initially, when we launched CBVMP, the GSMA, the global body of mobile operators, warned that it could have negative implications. However, once we implemented the system and witnessed its positive impact, GSMA itself approached us to understand how we achieved this success."
He recalled the challenges faced during the project's implementation, particularly the resistance from certain industry players who feared business disruptions due to mandatory biometric SIM registration.
"Our primary objective was security. Fraudulent activities using fake SIMs were widespread, and CBVMP was conceived as a solution to establish a secure identity verification system. Many criminals have since been identified, proving the effectiveness of this initiative."
Besides CBVMP, Synesis IT has played important roles in implementing various national projects, including e-Return, ETIN, NEIR, Export-Import Certification, National Job Portal, National Skills Portal, Unified Communication System for BCC, National Telehealth Call Center (Swasthya Batayan - 16263), Immigration Call Center, WASA Call Center, and TenderBazar.com, among others.
