171 foreign commercial ships docked at Mongla Port

KHULNA, Sept 23 (BSS): Mongla Port, the second largest sea port in the country, witnessed the anchoring of 171 overseas commercial ships in the last two and a half months boosting its revenue earnings.

Of the ships, 12 were carrying 8,514 TEUs of containers while 2,118 different brand cars were imported by 6 ships.

A total of 18.02 lakh tonnes of goods were transported from July 1, 2025 to September 21, 2025, according to the Mongla Port Authority (MPA).

Several measures have been taken to increase ship arrivals at Mongla Port during the interim government.

Apart from this, 153 foreign ships carrying fertiliser, clinker, LPG, coal and stone remained anchored at permanent anchorage of the port jetties and Boya of Harbaria, Base Creek, Sundori Kota and Mooring Boya point at present, said Muhammad Makruzzaman, Deputy Director (Public Relations) of the Mongla Port Authority (MPA).

Mongla Port is a key driver of economic development in the southwestern region of Bangladesh, he said, adding that it created hundreds of thousands of jobs for the people.
