More than 98 per cent of the network has been restored across the flood-hit 11 districts, according to the regularly updated monitoring report from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
The report highlights that, due to immediate action taken to secure the telecommunications network, 14,297 sites have been restored in the flood-affected districts of Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Comilla, Brahmanbaria, Chittagong, Khagrachari, Habiganj, Moulvibazar, Sylhet, and Cox's Bazar.
However, 254 sites remain non-operational. Of the 14,297 operational sites, 89 per cent of the worst-affected sites are back online, with only 73 of the 653 most impacted sites still down.
Chittagong has the highest number of restored sites, with 4,231 of its 4,258 sites operational. In Comilla, 18 out of 2,529 sites remain inactive. Similarly, 6.2 percent of sites in Noakhali, 2.9 per cent in Laxmipur, 2.3 per cent in Brahmanbaria, 3 per cent in Khagrachari, 1.8 per cent in Habiganj, 1.4 per cent in Moulvibazar, 1.8 per cent in Sylhet, and just 1 per cent in Cox's Bazar are still not operational.
On average, only 2.1 per cent of sites across the 11 districts are inactive.
Brigadier General Kazi Mustafizur Rahman, Director General of the Engineering and Operations Department of BTRC, stated that efforts are being intensified to restore the remaining inactive sites.
The BTRC is working in coordination with the Bangladesh Army to facilitate the transportation of technical personnel, network equipment, generators, and fuel for mobile operators and tower companies.
Additionally, Grameenphone, Robi, and Banglalink have each been provided with a truck and a speedboat to assist in these efforts.
