Afroza Shahin, wife of the founder and former managing director of TEAM Group, Abdullah Hil Rakib, has been appointed as the new managing director of the group following his tragic and untimely death.
On June 8, Abdullah Hil Rakib and his close friend, Captain Md Saifuzzaman Guddu, a senior pilot at Biman Bangladesh Airlines, died in a boating accident in Canada.
The decision was made in a board meeting held on Sunday and announced in an official statement on Monday.
In the statement, Abdullah Hil Rakib was described as a visionary leader whose steadfast commitment, integrity, and dedication to social development were central to the vision, growth, and success of TEAM Group.
His leadership, it added, will continue to inspire the company's journey ahead.
Afroza Shahin has been closely involved in the leadership and strategic direction of TEAM Group for many years, working alongside her husband.
Her deep understanding of the organisation's values, sense of responsibility, and resilience have equipped her to lead the group during this transitional period.
The statement further said, "Afroza Shahin's strength, dedication, and alignment with the company's vision will drive TEAM Group to new heights."
The Board of Directors has urged all stakeholders to work in unison under her leadership to continue the company's forward momentum.
Afroza Shahin earned her MBBS degree from Sir Salimullah Medical College in 2001 and later underwent postgraduate training at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
