All-clear given for unloading 1006 tonnes at Ctg Port since Sept 12

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 06: The concerned authorities at the country's prime seaport have issued no objection certificates (NOC) to clear 1,006 tonnes of onions imported from Pakistan and Myanmar since September 12.
Deputy Director of Plant Quarantine Centre of Chittagong Port Dr Muhammed Asaduzzaman Bulbul told the FE, "We have issued NOC for (clearing) the 1,006 tonnes of onions which have already been unloaded (from ships). The onions were imported from Myanmar and Pakistan by sea."
Secretary of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Omar Faruk said the Chittagong Customs House (CCH) took special measures to clear imported onions as soon as possible. Onions imported from different countries by sea started reaching the Chittagong Port, he added.
Dr Asaduzzaman said, they have issued Import Permission (IP) for shipping onions to Bangladesh from a dozen countries (since mid August). The importers have taken 351 IPs for importing 161,457 metric tonnes of onions (since then), he mentioned.
He said the 12 countries are Pakistan, Myanmar, the Netherlands, UAE, Turkey, Egypt, India, New Zealand, China, Malaysia, Ukraine and South Africa.
