Bangladesh Bank is set to release newly designed banknotes of Tk 1,000, Tk 50 and Tk 20 denominations into the market from June 1, reports UNB.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the central bank said it has begun printing a new series of banknotes themed on the historical and archaeological architecture of Bangladesh.
The new designs will be introduced for all denominations-Tk 2, Tk 5, Tk 10, Tk 20, Tk 50, Tk 100, Tk 200, Tk 500 and Tk 1,000, but in the first phase, ahead of Eid, only the Tk 1,000, Tk 50 and Tk 20 notes will be released.
The press release, signed by Mahua Mohsin, Director of Bangladesh Bank's Department of Publications and Communication, said the notes will bear the signature of Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur.
Initially, they will be issued from the central bank's Motijheel office and later from its other offices across the country.
Bangladesh Bank said the existing paper notes and metal coins will continue to remain in circulation alongside the new notes.
