FE REPORT

Bangladesh and Bhutan agreed on Thursday to expand their existing trade and bolster bilateral ties for mutual benefit of the two friendly neighbouring countries.

The development came when Bhutanese ambassador to Bangladesh Rinchen Kuentsyl called on Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the party chairperson's political office in the capital's Gulshan area.

Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, the standing committee member of the party, was also present during the one-hour meeting between the Bhutanese envoy and Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

"We have had a one-hour discussion with the Bhutanese ambassador. We have agreed to take our mutual cooperation to a new height. We informed the envoy that both Bangladesh and Bhutan have a wider scope to work together for mutual benefit of the two countries," Amir Khasru told the media.

About revitalising the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), he said that they had also discussed the SAARC issue with great importance.

BNP organising secretary Shama Obaed was also present at the meeting.
