BD needs fruitful facilities in global trade: Tipu

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, who is now in Geneva, said that Bangladesh needs fruitful facilities in global trade to graduate it into a developing country by 2024 alongside successfully attaining the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

"Bangladesh is moving forward successfully in global trade … global trade facilities will be very helpful to attain the targets of SDGs and becoming a developing country," he said.

The commerce minister said this while addressing the last meeting of the Bangladesh Trade Policy Review (TPR) committee in Geneva on Friday, reports BSS, quoting a ministry press release issued in Dhaka on Saturday.

He said that the Bangladesh trade policy has been adopted giving highest priority on the suggestions of the WTO and subsequently accountability has been ensured in trade.

"Bangladesh has always been demanding implementation of the Doha Round declaration of WTO while Bangladesh wants speedy implementation of all decisions including preferential trade facilities," he added.

The commerce minister mentioned that Bangladesh has undertaken massive programmes for ensuring sustainable development in trade and commerce in line with the decision and suggestions of the WTO.

"Bangladesh has already gained reputation in competitive global trade while the country wants sincere cooperation from the WTO and the buyers' community," he added.

Mentioning that Bangladesh is now a very suitable place for making investment, Tipu said many countries of the world have already come to Bangladesh for making investment and for this the volume of investment is increasing day by day.
