Commerce secretary Md Jafar Uddin has expressed the hope that Bangladesh would continue to have preferential market access to Swiss market even after the country's graduation to the developing country status in 2024.
"Bangladesh is going to become a developing country in 2024. The European Union has adopted a policy of allowing Bangladesh to enjoy the preferential market access for a few more years after its graduation to a developing country status," he said at the second inter-governmental agency meeting at the commerce ministry on Wednesday.
In line with the same policy, Switzerland would give preferential market access for Bangladeshi products, Mr Jafar expressed the hope.
The meeting also discussed the ways to increase trade between the two countries and enhance bilateral economic cooperation.
Erwin Bollinger, Head of Bilateral Economic Relations Division, Dhaka, Switzerland, was present at the discussion.
