The Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) has taken a series of measures to ensure safe food for consumers during the upcoming month of Ramadan.
"We have taken various measures, including issuance of mass circular and introduction of mobile laboratory van in the city, to make consumers aware about safe food and hygiene food handling during the holy month of Ramadan," BFSA chairman Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque told the FE.
The Authority is going to form a central committee comprising a pool of food scientists/experts so that they could help the government ensure safe food the consumers, he said.
At present, over one hundred people having technical expertise in safe food are cooperating with the BFSA to ensure safe food.
Mr Hoque said a shortage of skilled food inspectors has been hampering its efforts to ensure safe food.
Meanwhile, the BFSA launched a survey on safe food and hygiene standards at hotels and restaurants in the city on April 02.
Under the move, the government will declare selected eateries 'safe food zone' initially.
