BGFCL starts drilling of Titas-28 well

Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) began the drilling operation for the Titas-28 well at Titas Gas Field in Brahmanbaria on Monday.

This drilling operation is part of the 'Drilling of four appraisal-cum-development wells in Titas and Kamta fields' project. The project involves drilling four key wells -- Titas-28, Titas-29, Titas-30, and Kamta-2 -- in the Titas and Kamta gas fields, says a press statement.

CNPC Chuanqing Drilling Engineering Company Ltd. (CCDC), a Chinese company, will conduct the drilling operations.

Following the completion of rig foundation construction and mobilisation of drilling equipment and materials, the spud-in ceremony for Titas-28 well was in the Titas Gas Field.

Engineer Md. Faruk Hossain, Managing Director of BGFCL, presided over the event, while Engineer Md. Shoaib, Director (PSC) of Petrobangla, was present as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the drilling operation.

Also present at the ceremony were Engineer A. K. M. Jasim Uddin, Project Director, Meherul Hasan, General Manager (Reservoir and Data Management), Petrobangla; Li Linzhen, Director Operations, CCDC Bangladesh Project; Lt Gen (Retd.) Ataul H. S. Hasan, Chairman, Far Well and Gas Limited; and senior officials of BGFCL.

The drilling project, part of the broader Field Development Programme for the Titas Gas Field, follows a re-evaluation of seismic survey data conducted by BAPEX in 2010-12. In 2020, China National Petroleum Corporation's BGP Inc. reviewed the data and provided a comprehensive plan for the Titas Field's development.

Under this project, three wells (Titas-28, Titas-29, and Titas-30) will be drilled in the Titas Gas Field in Brahmanbaria, while one well (Kamta-2) will be drilled at Kaliganj in Gazipur.
