Bangladesh could be a lucrative investment destination for Switzerland as the government has taken all necessary measures to make the process of investment easier and faster.
Commerce minister Tipu Munshi said this during a meeting with Nathalie Chuard, the newly appointed Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh, at the office of the minister's residence in the city on Sunday, according to a press release.
The Swiss envoy proposed holding a bilateral meeting between the two countries, and said such a meeting would make easier to identify the potential trade and investment sectors.
At the meeting, they agreed to hold a bilateral meeting in November next to strengthen the trade relations further, the press release said.
Switzerland is an important trade partner of Bangladesh and there is a huge potential for the expansion of trade and investments between the two countries, commerce minister Tipu Munshi said, adding that Dhaka is looking to seize the opportunity.
Swiss Ambassador Nathalie Chuard said Switzerland gives priority to Bangladesh when it comes to trade and investment.
Switzerland has been putting in its efforts to contribute to the development of Bangladesh, the envoy said.
She also noted that there are prospects to increase trade in pharmaceutical and light engineering sectors.
The commerce minister mentioned that some 100 special economic zones are being set up in the country and over 50 per cent construction work on these zones are almost complete.
Different countries, including Japan, India, China and Korea, have come forward to make large investments in these economic zones, he added.
