CCC to construct 38 footbridges

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 25: Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) will build as many as 38 overbridges, which they say, will help curb road accidents.

The bridges will be constructed under the project titled 'Development of various roads including airport road and development of various important infrastructure' at a cost of Tk 25 billion.

Mayor of CCC Dr Shahadat Hossain laid the foundation stone of a new footbridge under the project in front of the Bangladesh Navy Ready Response Berth (BNRRB) on the Airport Road at South Patenga on Wednesday. The bridge is being built at a cost of Tk 15 million.

Speaking on the occasion, the mayor said the footbridge will help cut the risks of road accidents. A number of heavy and express vehicles, including trucks and lorries, use this road, he added.

Executive Engineer of CCC Ashiqul Islam said the 21-metre long bridge is due for completion on August 30 next year. He said the construction work of the footbridges in front of KEPZ area and Sanwara High School in Chandgaon area will begin soon while another 10-feet long bridge is under construction.
