Cheaper Tablet getting popular

Low-cost mobile computer, popularly known as 'Tablet,' is getting popularity in the country like other countries of the world for its flexible nature to browse internet.

The device that is smaller than laptop and bigger than smart phone has huge facility, especially light weight, easily portable and wide screen helps the users for surfing internet and playing game in any mood.

According to the market insiders, the demand of the device is going up, thanks to the introduction of 3G (third generation) mobile service by the four telecom operators in the country.

They said in future 'tablet' will be in leading position next to the mobile device when 3G network coverage will reach across the country.

Both local and global vendors are marketing such product in the country's market. Tablet price has been brought down to a nominal level, which is below Tk 20,000.

Already, world renowned brand HP and Samsung have announced for marketing such low cost product in the global market. Especially, HP declared that it is going to release six-inch smart phone and a seven-inch tablet in the Indian market next month. The cost of the product will be within $200.

Another giant company Samsung has confirmed in the world media that the company is going to release soon "Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite" that will be in two categories- SM-T110 and SM-T111.  

The cost of SM-T110, Wi-Fi model device will be $165 while SM-T111, a 3G one, will be $265, according to the company.

Head of Mobile Division of Samsung in Bangladesh Hasan Mehdi said he is not aware of the debut of the product. He also informed the FE that some products released in the Indian market do not come to Bangladesh.

At present, the local vendors are selling seven to eight inch tablet from Tk 15000 to Tk 8000. Symphony and Walton are in the good position for smart phone as well as tablet selling.

Symphony Senior Director Rezwanul Haque told the FE that his company is selling a good quantity of tablet every month. He hopes the product demand will increase gradually depending on internet coverage.

Talking about price, he said the existing price will come down to below Tk 10,000, which will allow everyone to buy such product easily.

Walton Mobile Division Head and Deputy Director S.M. Rejoan Alam Shiplu said the product demand is rising in the market. He thinks it will take more time to be popular like mobile device. Usually people will use tablet as their second device next to the mobile phone, he opined.
