CMAs can play role in anti-dumping duties, countervailing measures

FRC chief tells a workshop

Cost and Management Accountants (CMAs) could considerably contribute to the issues related to anti-dumping duties and countervailing measures, said Financial Reporting Council (FRC) Chairman C. Q. K. Mustaq Ahmed.

He said this while delivering speech as chief guest at the inaugural session of a workshop titled 'Anti-Dumping and Countervailing Measures: Emerging Avenue for Cost Auditors' on Friday evening.

The two-day workshop that concluded on Saturday was organised by the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) in collaboration with WTO Cell under the Ministry of Commerce at its auditorium in the city, according to a press release.

Mr. Ahmed said, "Anti-dumping is a serious issue in our economy. Our development is business driven, so we need to run smoothly to achieve the development goals we all are talking about."

He said the CMA professionals could contribute considerably for bringing remedy to anti-dumping duty and help the local businesses grow.

Delivering his welcome speech, ICMAB President M Abul Kalam Mazumdar said the workshop is all about such an important issue that causes serious impact on national economy and practicing accountants could contribute to the anti-dumping remedial process.

In the inaugural day, Director General of the WTO Cell at the Ministry of Commerce Munir Chowdhury presented a paper titled 'Overview on WTO Agreements' while the ministry's Joint Secretary & Director (WTO Cell) Md Hafizur Rahman presented a paper on 'WTO Anti-dumping Agreement and Domestic Procedure'.

On the second day, Bangladesh Tariff Commission (BTC) Joint Chief Rama Dewan made a presentation on 'Initiation Procedure of Anti-dumping Case' and BTC member Mustafa Abid Khan made a presentation on 'Exporters Questionnaire Fill Up'.
