February 05, 2018 00:00:00

Coca-Cola Bangladesh launched a month-long campaign for the International Mother Language Day titled "Nikhoj Shobder Khoje" at Bishwa Shahitya Kendra in the capital recently, says a statement.

The campaign has been launched to motivate the young generation to learn and reconnect themselves with the Bengali words which are not in use for a long time and have become almost extinct now.

However, the main purpose of the campaign is to create awareness about the 'missing' words. The programmes of the campaign includes reaching the message to the young generation that the words, which have high literary value, were once used to enrich and beautify Bangla language and motivate the people to be a part of this campaign to help retrieve, revive and popularise the words.

The campaign will be run under the guidance of three distinguished personalities who are adept in Bangla.

They are renowned writer, language expert and academic Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman, Professor Bhismadeb Chowdhury of Bangla Department of Dhaka University (DU), and noted writer and novelist Anisul Hoque.

The words will be inscribed on Coca-Cola bottle during the month-long campaign to make people informed that the obsolete words were once widely used in conversation, speech, literature and writing. The words have become almost extinct as they are not being used for many decades.

The campaign also includes rallies, posturing, wall writings, quizzes.

A website has also been launched at www.coca-cola.com.bd/21 as part of this campaign.

There will be fun games and quizzes with Bangla words on the website, where anyone can participate, play and win rewards.
