CPDRC to form cell to advise govt on Ctg port's sustainable dev

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 07: Commodore (Retd) Jubaier Ahmed was elected president and Mohammed Mahfuzur Rahman Khan general secretary of the new committee of the Chittagong Port Development and Research Council (CPDRC) on Saturday.
After election, Commodore (Retd) Jubaier Ahmed chaired the first meeting of the new committee, held at the K B Abdus Sattar Hall of the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Bhaban in the morning.
Addressing the meeting, Commodore Jubaier Ahmed said the CPDRC will form a research cell to conduct research on development of Chittagong Port, the country's prime seaport.
He said the cell will be formed not only to conduct research on the port development but also with the view to giving advice to the government and the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) on proper and sustainable development of the port.
Former CPA officials and experts will be included in the cell. The cell will conduct research and make recommendations while the CPDRC will assist the CPA in developing the port, he added.
The meeting was also addressed by CPDRC leaders Advocate Ibrahim Hossain Chowdhury Babul, Dr Mahfuzur Rahman, Engineer Abdus Sabur, journalists M Nasirul Haque, Jasim Chowdhury Sabuj, Nazimuddin Shyamol, Salim Ullah Khan and Professor Idris Ali.
The speakers said that development of Chittagong Port is essential for the development of Bangladesh. They said, to develop the port's facilities, the government has to develop the infrastructures of Chattogram, they added.
