Speakers in separate programmes have urged the non-government and commercial organisations to create more employment opportunities for the disabled. They said disability is not any obstruction anymore, but a challenge.
They made the call in an exchange of views meeting and inaugural ceremony of a job fair for differently abled people in the capital.
National Disability Forum (NDF) organised an exchange of views meeting with the support of Access Bangladesh Foundation and Disability Rights Fund (DRF) while Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) has organised the job fair for differently abled people.
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan was present in the exchange of views meeting and spoke while State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak addressed the inaugural ceremony of job fair for differently abled persons.
Describing different initiatives taken by the government to mainstream the disabled persons, Shahjahan Khan said "government initiatives are not enough. Non government and commercial organisations needed to be more aware in creating employment for physically-challenged people of the country.
He mentioned that the government has been providing allowance of Tk 700 each among over 0.82 million (8.25 lakh) and stipend of Tk 500-1200 each among 80,000 differently abled people. He urged the non-government and commercial organisations to create more employment opportunities for the disabled.

Addressing the other programme, State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, said differently abled people just need specialised training and support from persons, family and state. With these, they can change the whole world for good and can become exemplary personality, he said adding the government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is committed to provide assistance to them.
"We are using the spirit of Digital Bangladesh as a tool to create an inclusive society under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and under the supervision of her ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy. We believe disability is not unbeatable. They too can change the world with a little help," said the state minister.
He added that government through a project is going to provide specialised training to 3,000 differently abled people in next three years.
