DCCI Foundation to help Chawkbazar fire victims

The DCCI Foundation decided on Saturday to provide financial support to the victims of Chawkbazar fire incident.

It also urged the government to take necessary measures for preventing recurrence of such incident in future.

"We have decided to provide an interim financial support," President of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Osama Taseer told the FF.

He said the support, initially a fund of Tk 2.5 million, will go to the family members of the deceased and the injured ones.

The Foundation has a responsibility to look into the affairs/ activities as part of trade body's corporate social responsibility as observed at the board meeting of the trade body.

It also requested all concerned to come up with a sustainable solution through discussions with the stakeholders to avoid recurrence of such devastating fire incidents, the meeting sources said.

The meeting was told that chemical is a combustible substance and its transportation, business and warehousing should be maintained in a planned way.

Moreover, the chemical business, its storing and dwelling under a same roof/building is very risky.

Earlier, the board members of the DCCI have expressed solidarity and sympathy to the bereaved and affected families of the incident.
