DCCI wants 2019-21 to be ‘infrastructure years’

FE Report | January 27, 2018 00:00:00

The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) suggested the government declare 2019-2021 to be infrastructure years.

The suggestion of the trade body came at a meeting between the board of directors of the DCCI and executive chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Kazi M. Aminul Islam on Wednesday at BIDA headquarters at Agargaon in Dhaka.

President of the DCCI Abul Kasem Khan led the chamber's delegation.

He urged the investment promotion agency to improve the country's infrastructure, industrial energy situation, and efficiency in the institutional framework and skills of human resources.

"We need to come out of the situation where both local and foreign investments remain stagnant," he said.

He said that the private investment needs to be scaled up to 29 per cent from the current level of 22.5 per cent.

He called upon the government to declare 2019-2021 to be infrastructure years.

"We need to enhance our business-friendly environment within the country to attract FDI and catalyse local investments," Mr Khan said.

He also underscored the need for public-private and effective collaboration as the future business will depend mostly on research and innovation.
