Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman on Saturday urged the deputy commissioners (DCs) to make sure that the farmers, small investors and women entrepreneurs are not harassed in anyway while receiving bank loans, reports UNB.
"DCs are responsible to monitor disbursement and realisation of agriculture and SME loans. So, they've to ensure the loans are being disbursed in a proper manner," he said while addressing a reception organised by Munshiganj district administration.
The function, titled 'Winner Munshiganj, Winner Bangladesh', was arranged to honour different successful personalities of the districts.
The governor said each district has a separate agriculture loan committee to approve agriculture loan and this committee should ensure that the target of agriculture loan disbursement is achieved.
He said the farmers are supposed to get concessional loans at 4.0 per cent interest for producing import-substitute crops and spices and loans at 5.0 per cent for rearing cows for milk production.
"The district loan committee, headed by the DC, needs to supervise the loan disbursement and realization," Atiur said adding that the SME loan monitoring should also be supervised by the Deputy Commissioner.
"If DCs do their job properly, building a happy, prosperous and digital Bangladesh is obvious," he said.
Appreciating the district administration for arranging the programme, the Governor said this district has been holding many rich Bangladeshi heritages as many famous legends were born here.
He said Munshiganj has been one of the most potential districts in the country as garment industries are being relocated here from Dhaka city.
"This will be the largest industrial district once the ongoing Padma Bridge project is completed. This district will be linked with the capital through railway," he said.
The function, chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Munshiganj Saiful Hasan Badal, was addressed, among others, by Mrinal Kanti Das, Sagufta Yasmin and Sukumar Ranjan Ghosh.
