Eastern Bank files Tk 2.0b defamation case against customer

Eastern Bank PLC (EBL), a leading private sector financial institution, has filed a defamation lawsuit against one of its clients, demanding Tk 200 crore as compensation, in the First Joint District Judge Court of Dhaka on March 4, says a press release.

The court has taken cognizance of the case and issued a summon against Md. Murtoza Ali.

Md. Mortoza Ali, a customer of Chandgaon Branch, Chattogram of Eastern Bank PLC, out of malicious motives, submitted a petition for filing a case against the Board of Directors, Managing Director, and 46 senior officials of Eastern Bank PLC in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Chattogram. In this petition, Eastern Bank was baselessly accused of embezzling Tk 110 million (11 crore).
