"We should ensure quality products if we want to push up the export growth," he said at a discussion marking the World Metrology Day on Sunday.
Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) organised the event at its conference room in the city.
The government has taken steps to strengthen BSTI offices at the district level, the minister said and called on the officials to properly monitor the quality of products.
He also asked the officials and departments concerned to ensure utmost quality of the work for the construction of bridges and roads.
The main objective of the World Metrology Day is to raise awareness about the importance of measurements in daily life.
The theme of the day is 'Constant Evolution of the International System of Units (SI)'.
Director General of BSTI Sardar Abul Kalam delivered the welcome address while Director (Metrology) Md Anwar Hossain Mollah presided over the event.
