EU, China to participate in Bangladesh Business Summit

European Union (EU) and China have assured the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) that they would participate in the Bangladesh Business Summit-2023 going to be held next month in Dhaka.

FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin received the assurance from Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen as the former along with other directors of the apex trade body met with him at his Embassy office in Dhaka on Thursday for inviting them to attend the summit.

Highlighting the rapid economic growth of Bangladesh within a short span of time and its development targets, the FBCCI chief said China and Bangladesh could immensely benefit by coordinating the development strategies of both the countries.

He added the Bangladesh Business Summit-2023 to be held on March 11-13, 2023 in Dhaka will be the right avenue to explore the areas where both the countries can harmonise in terms of trade and investment for shared development.

The FBCCI president said the mega event (Bangladesh Business Summit-2023) will be organised in partnership with the government of Bangladesh. He added it is envisaged that the bi-annual summit will become Bangladesh's flagship business promotion event to highlight the country's economic and market strengths, and concrete trade and investment opportunities by convening national and global business leaders, investors, policymakers, practitioners, policy and market analysts, academia and investors.

Mr Jashim proposed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the visiting business leaders from China.

He also assured that factory visit, bilateral and sectoral meetings, signing of memorandum of understandings (MoUs) on investment, trade and cooperation will be arranged during the Summit.

The Chinese ambassador Yao Wen said this initiative (Bangladesh Business Summit -2023) of FBCCI will show the world that Bangladesh offers timely investment opportunities.

He further said high level government officials and high-profile businessmen and investors will join the summit.

The envoy suggested laying more focus on the green industries, ICT and food processing in the event. Besides, Yao Wen recommended arranging business to business or B2B meetings between Bangladeshi and Chinese businessmen and investors on the sideline.

FBCCI senior vice president Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu, vice- president M A Momen, former ambassador Abdul Hannan, chairman of Policy Exchange of Bangladesh and technical advisor of FBCCI's golden jubilee celebration programme (Bangladesh Business Summit-2023) Dr M Masrur Reaz were also present at the meeting.

Meanwhile, Md Jashim Uddin along with an FBCCI team also met with Charles Whiteley, ambassador and head of delegation of the EU to Bangladesh, on Thursday.

He also invited the EU higher officials and business personnel to attend the business summit.

Mr. Charles Whiteley assured that the Director General in the EU might attend the Summit.
