EU offers support to help recover laundered money

European Union (EU) has expressed its willingness to cooperate by providing logistical support and expertise for quick recovery of money laundered from Bangladesh, reports BSS.
EU Ambassador and Head of Delegation to Bangladesh Michael Miller said this during a courtesy call on Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin at his office in the city, said a press release.
At the meeting, they discussed various issues, including mutual cooperation and implementation of International Labor Organisation (ILO) Convention.
Bashir Uddin said Bangladesh fully respects the ILO Convention and the country has a clear roadmap for implementation of the convention.
"Bangladesh has a large population. Most of them are young people. Our goal is to make them a skilled workforce and achieve economic liberation for the country by utilising the energy of youth," he added.
He said the government is working to maintain the supply chain of daily necessities, adding that that as a result, the prices of several products have already come down.
"The government has reduced duties on many products to bring down prices," he added.
Michael Miller highlighted that free trade agreement will play a role in increasing trade and commerce between EU and Bangladesh. He also expressed the hope that foreign direct investment from Europe to Bangladesh would increase if the investment climate improves.
Additional Secretary (Export) of the Ministry of Commerce Md Abdur Rahim Khan was present during the meeting.
