A colourful procession was brought out in Gazipur on the occasion of a four-day-long tax fair on Wednesday. RANGPUR, Sept 16 (BSS) : The spontaneous payment of income tax by the eligible citizens will not only strengthen the national economy, but also make them dignified people ensuring their participation in the national-building activities.
The Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu said this Wednesday at the inaugural ceremony of a weeklong 'Income Tax Fair-2015' at Zila Parishad Community Centre in the city as the chief guest.
Rangpur Zonal Tax Commissioner's Office has been organising the fair at Zila Parishad Community Centre from September 16 to 22 to assist, inspire and encourage the eligible citizens for spontaneous payment of income taxes.
Member (Information Management and Service) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Meer Mustaq Ali, Divisional Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Mujibur Rahman, and President of Rangpur Chamber Abul Kashem addressed as special guests.
Tax Commissioner of Rangpur Zone Animesh Roy presided over the function.
The income tax officials, employees, income tax payers, chamber and business community leaders, bankers, industrialists, entrepreneurs, civil society members, professionals, common people and elite of the city were present.
The speakers stressed for creating awareness among the common citizens to encourage them in paying income taxes availing various facilities being provided by the government in a hassle-free manner through the NBR.
The chief guest stressed for bringing down the prevailing gap between common tax payers and income tax officials and making the tax fixation and payment methods easier through reach the services at the people's doorsteps for increasing number of taxpayers.
Gazipur correspondent adds: A four-day-long income tax fair was inaugurated at Bangataz auditorium in Gazipur on Wednesday. The Tax Commissioner of Gazipur Tax zone (Gazipur and Tangail district) Mahbub Hossain inaugurated the fair as the chief guest. Additional Tax Commissioner Shahadat Hossain Sikder, Deputy Tax Commissioner Badiruzzaman and officials of Tax office were present at the inaugural function.
Gazipur Tax office sources said the taxpayers can pay their returns of 2015-2016 fiscal year in this fair as well as do registration of e-TIN. A help desk was opened in the fair to give support to the taxpayers.
Besides, separate counters were also set up for women, old men, freedom fighters and physically challenged people. A colourful procession was also brought out in the town on the occasion of the tax fair.
