February 17, 2018 00:00:00

Railway Minister M Mujibul Haq has said the government is planning to construct circular railway surrounding the Dhaka city for eliminating traffic gridlock in the capital.

Under the plan, a feasibility study for constructing circular railway was approved by the Planning Commission on December 27 in 2017, targeting reduction of traffic gridlock in the Dhaka city, report BSS.

The railway minister said this while responding to a tabled question placed by treasury bench member M Abdul Latif of Chittagong-11 at the House.

The step has been taken to appoint a consultant under the feasibility study project, he said.

The investment project will be taken for constructing the circular railway after completion of the feasibility, the minister said, adding that "if the project is implemented it will be helpful for eliminating the traffic gridlock of the Dhaka City."
