Govt to create level-playing field for Trade: Adviser

Automation of customs activities would make export, import easier: Bashir Uddin tells NTFC meeting

Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin said on Monday the government is committed to ensuring trade facilitation through identifying unnecessary regulations and reviewing the trade-related rules.

"We will establish justice and create a level-playing field, through which our trade volume and economic capacity will increase," said the adviser.

He was speaking at the ninth meeting of the National Trade Facilitation Committee (NTFC), organised by the Ministry of Commerce, at the BIAM Foundation in Dhaka.

Mr. Bashir Uddin said the government wants an efficient trade regime, through which our national economy will grow greatly, thus serving as a major platform for equitable distributions of wealth.

"We definitely want to curb tax evasion, but at the same time, we want to develop skills," he added.

He further said the activities of the customs authorities are being automated, which will help make import and export tasks easier.

National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan, Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission (BTTC) Chairman Dr Moinul Khan, National Skills Development Authority Executive Chairman Nazneen Kawshar Chowdhury, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Administrator Md Hafizur Rahman, Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Vice Chairman Md Abdur Rahim Khan and Additional Secretary of Commerce Ministry Ayesha Akter, were present at the meeting.
