FE Report | July 16, 2019 00:00:00

The World Youth Skills Day (WYSD)-2019 was observed on Monday highlighting the crucial roles of skilled youths in addressing today's most challenging global issues.

The National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) under the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) organised a discussion marking the day at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni spoke on the occasion as the chief guest while Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed was present as the special guest.

Sajjadul Hassan, secretary of the PMO, chaired the discussion.

Faruque Hossain, executive chairman (secretary in-charge) of NSDA, delivered the welcome address.

Dipu Moni said the government is going to introduce technical and vocational education in schools and madrashas soon for developing skills among the young students.

People who are working in domestic and international markets are not enjoying expected acceptability due to lack of proper and well-timed skills, so the government is working relentlessly to prepare a good number of people to this end, she added.

At its General Assembly in November 2014, the United Nations declared July 15 the World Youth Skills Day.

The UN designated day seeks to generate greater awareness of the importance of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and the development of other skills relevant to both local and global economies.
