Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin said the government is working to stabilise the prices of essential commodities, particularly in preparation for the upcoming Ramadan.

Speaking at a scholarship cheque distribution event at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Saturday, the adviser said the prices of sugar, oil and onions have already shown a decline following recent market interventions, reports UNB.

"We are striving to maintain a balance between supply and demand to ensure affordability," Bashir Uddin said, adding that achieving a sustainable market requires collective efforts and public cooperation.

He urged the media professionals to play a role in achieving this goal.

Reflecting on the challenges the society faced over the past 15 years, the adviser said the emergence of a culture of criminalisation has fragmented the state and fostered a pervasive climate of fear across various sectors.

He also called on the students to view knowledge acquisition as a continuous process and to remain determined in their pursuit of academic and professional success.
