CHATTOGRAM, Sept 21: Planning Minister MA Mannan said on Saturday he would talk with high-ups of the government to stop harassment and corruption in lending microcredit loans.

He gave the assurance speaking at a regional conference on Role of Small Donors to Achieve SDGs (sustainable development goals) held at the Chattogram Officers Club.

He also said the wheels of the economy were moving and the per capita income was increasing.

"We will take loans, if we need. We can return the loans timely now as our country is progressing day by day. Our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is leading the country towards progress and we will sacrifice everything but not our dignity now," he said.

"Only one per cent fund of the microcredit organisations of the country used to come from donors. So, there is nothing to say about the only one per cent fund. If necessary, we will provide loans," he added.

The minister also assured the organisers at the conference that he would talk with high-ups of the government to stop harassment and corruption in micro credit loans.

Advisor to BRAC Dr Abdul Karim chaired the conference while former governor of Bangladesh Bank Atiur Rahman, Executive Vice Chairman of Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) Omolendu Mukharjee, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Momota Rafique Ahamod, Advisor to Antor Society for Development Emranul Haque Chowdhury and CEO of YPSA Arifur Rahman and ED of Page Development Centre Lokman Hakim also spoke on the occasion.
