Grameenphone rolls out 700 MHz spectrum band nationwide

FE REPORT | June 15, 2026 00:00:00

Grameenphone has become the first operator in Bangladesh to roll out the recently acquired 700 MHz spectrum band nationwide, marking a major milestone in strengthening digital connectivity and improving customer experience across the country.

The deployment was officially announced on Sunday at an event held at a hotel in Dhaka.

Grameenphone Chief Executive Officer Yasir Azman made the announcement, with Rehan Asif Asad, Adviser to the Prime Minister for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, attending as the chief guest, and Major General (Retd.) Md Emdad Ul Bari, Chairman of the BTRC, present as the special guest.

The rollout of the 700 MHz band is expected to significantly improve indoor coverage and strengthen nationwide mobile connectivity, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas. Owing to its low-band characteristics, the spectrum enables wider coverage per base station, supporting faster, more cost-efficient network expansion and helping bridge the digital divide.

Speaking at the event, Rehan Asif Asad said the deployment represents an important step in strengthening Bangladesh's digital infrastructure.

BTRC Chairman Md Emdad Ul Bari said the spectrum will play a key role in enhancing coverage quality, especially indoors and in underserved regions.

Yasir Azman said the deployment reflects Grameenphone's commitment to delivering a superior network experience nationwide.
