Highest alert along Rajshahi border

RAJSHAHI, Aug 10 (BSS): The district administrations have asked all law-enforcement agencies especially the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to check smuggling out of raw hides of sacrificial animals through the borders in Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon and Joypurhat districts.

The BGB local authorities have also instructed all the border outposts to remain on highest alert along the frontiers so that not a single animal hide or skin is smuggled out from the country.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Hamidul Haque said all concerned departments are pledge-bound to prevent hide smuggling.

The government has given instructions in this regard, he added.

BGB officials said all the border outposts have been kept on highest alert to prevent hide smuggling.

Besides, all the highway check-posts will enhance their vigilance in this regard. Instruction for seizing the hide-laden trucks from one district to another has been given to all the checkpoints.

Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Nur-Ur-Rahman said specific instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce are given also to check hide smuggling.

District unit president of Hide Traders' Association Asaduzzaman Asad said a syndicate is active to smuggle out hide of sacrificial animal through the local border.

He urged the authorities concerned to take strict measures for checking smuggling of hide from the country.
