Hire more CMAs for competitive advantage

ICMAB urges HR officials

FE REPORT | October 22, 2022 00:00:00

The country's cost and management accountants (CMAs) in a view-exchange meeting urged organisations to employ more CMAs, as they are not only accountants but also management professionals.

They said CMAs are playing a commendable role in the country's private and public sectors with exceptional cost management skills, although their role is somewhat underrated here.

The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) organised the meeting with human resources (HR) experts, senior talent management professionals and recruiting firms at a city hotel on Thursday night to exchange views with them.

The aim of the session was to develop a bridge between the two professional groups to work together and achieve synergy in the corporate level.

The overall activities of the ICMAB, particularly the skill-set of a qualified CMA, were highlighted on the occasion.

ICMAB President Md Mamunur Rashid presided over the programme. ICMAB Placement Committee Chairman Imtiaz Alam delivered the welcome speech, while its Vice President Md. Munirul Islam offered vote of thanks.

A presentation on the role of CMAs in business was delivered by Dr. Mohammad Zakaria Masud, Professor and ICMAB Director (Academic Affairs).

The ICMAB president requested the HR leaders to recruit more local professional accountants to get competitive advantage in the long run and save foreign currency, as a significant amount of money is now being transferred to other countries for hiring foreign professionals.

He said as a member body of the IFAC, CAPA and SAFA, the ICMAB maintains world-class course curriculum, and its certification is recognised in the global market.

"The ICMAB members are working at the top positions in different sectors of the country as well in the international arena."

There are a large number of talented professional accountants in the country, and they maintain the highest level of professional ethics and code of conduct in workplaces, the ICMAB president noted.

The ICMAB members always update their knowledge with changing business environment through Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Programme, organised by the institute on a regular basis, he added.

A good number of senior HR professionals from different corporate houses and recruiting agents of the country were present in the programme.
