A daylong International Medical Tourism Conference was held in Dhaka on Saturday, aimed at boosting both inbound and outbound medical tourism in the country.
The event, which took place at Daffodil Plaza in Dhanmondi, saw participation from local and foreign hospitals, health service providers, and other organisations related to medical tourism and services, according to a statement issued by the Bangladesh Medical Tourism Association (BMTA).
The primary objectives of the conference were to foster networking among local and foreign medical service providers and to promote Bangladesh's medical tourism industry abroad, the organisers said. The conference also discussed ways and strategies to establish Bangladesh as an international-standard treatment hub and attract foreign patients to the country.
Several sessions were held, covering topics such as the current state of medical tourism, the industry's future potential, and opportunities for growth. Modern treatments for cancer and infertility were also discussed during the sessions.
Dr. Syed Abdul Hamid, Professor at the Institute of Health Economics at Dhaka University, and Md Jahangir Alam, Divisional Director (Health) at DGHS, were among the key speakers at the conference.
