Some 25 supply chain management (SCM) professionals and organisations in the country will win accolades for their outstanding contribution to different categories of business operations.
The recognition titled 'Bangladesh Supply Chain Excellence Award (BSCEA) 2019' is expected to encourage the SCM professionals, who play a crucial role in operating businesses.
IPDC Finance Limited and Bangladesh Supply Chain Management Society (BSCMS), joint organisers of the award programme, made the announcement at a press conference in the city on Tuesday.
IPDC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mominul Islam, BSCMS president Naquib Khan and Asian regional CEO of International Supply Chain Education Alliance (ISCEA) Ejazur Rahman spoke on the occasion, among others.
ISCEA is the knowledge partner of the award.
According to the organisers, a jury panel will select 25 best cases of supply chain management - seven individuals, nine local companies and nine multinational companies (MNCs) operating in Bangladesh.
They will receive the award in 11 different categories namely young supply chain talent of the year, supply chain professional of the year, supply chain collaboration and partnering, supply chain talent development and manufacturing excellence.
The application is now open for any local or multinational organisation or individual professional based on their contribution in 2018.
The award winners will receive crest and certificates as recognition, while about five young awardees will also receive ISCEA certification as additional honour.
Submission of nomination will conclude on October 24 next, ahead of the prize giving ceremony scheduled to be held at a city convention centre on November 28.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mominul Islam said the event is set to take place for the second time this year, following a huge response from the stakeholders last year.
The IPDC chief also said the SCM is crucial for the national economy as it involves different parties including small and medium entrepreneurs.
"Better practice of the SCM will also play a vital role for achieving the country's economic goal to become a middle income and developed nation by 2021 and 2041 respectively," he said.
Mr. Naquib Khan said Bangladesh still lags behind in terms of SCM excellence as compared to the global practice.
"We are actually in need of more supply chain professionals in the country for productivity improvement and other purposes," said the BSCMS president, who is also corporate affairs director of Nestle Bangladesh.
He also said that there are enormous scopes of SCM in the country's export-oriented readymade garment sector.
Following the press conference, IPDC and the BSCMS signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to continue organising the award programme for the next five years.
