Jamdani Fair begins in city (2018-05-30)

A 10-day 'Jamdani Fair' kicked off in the city on Tuesday, aiming to promote the century-old tradition of weaving the fabric.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu inaugurated the fair as the chief guest at the National Museum in the capital.
Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) has organised the exposition.
The industries minister said the government is working on development and expansion of the Jamdani industry in order to uphold the glory of exquisite sarees.
The government has also set up an industrial city in Narayanganj district to accommodate the Jamdani weavers there, he added.
Various types of Jamdani sarees, including Tersa and Jolpar, have been put on display at the fair.
State minister for textiles and jute Mirza Azam, lawmaker Golam Dastagir Gazi and BSCIC chairman Mustak Hassan Md Iftekhar also spoke on the occasion.
