FE Report | July 11, 2019 00:00:00

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun has called on South Korean entrepreneurs of small and medium enterprises (SME) to invest in the potential sectors of Bangladesh such as leather and ceramics.

The minister made the call when South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Hu Kang-il met him at his ministry office in the city on Wednesday, according to a media release.

South Korea is an important development partner of Bangladesh, he said and stressed the need for strengthening the existing bilateral relations for mutual benefits through quality industrialisation.

They also discussed the issues of technology transfer and industrialisation and the upcoming visit of Korean prime minister to Bangladesh.

The Korean envoy appreciated the economic progress and the pace of industrialisation in Bangladesh.

He said Korea's economy has developed because of hard labour, industrialisation and innovation. Once the per capita income of Korea was even lower than that of Bangladesh, he said.

The envoy also appreciated hard-working Bangladeshi workers and said the country will be able to achieve its desired goal through industrialisation.

Mr Hu Kang-il also assured that his country will continue its investment in the growing industries of Bangladesh.

Industries secretary Abdul Halim, joint secretary Yasmin Sultana and officials of Korean Embassy were present at the meeting.
