Land owners urged to pay taxes online

The land owners could pay their land development taxes from home through a designated government website.

A high official of the Ministry of Land ( MoL) said that the ministry in a message urged the land owners to pay land tax through the land.gov.bd website without facing any hassle. He said that the government also emphasised the use of digital methods to secure land ownership.

The MoL official further said that the government introduced the digital payment system to make land management system fully smart and transparent.

To pay land development tax, citizens must first register on the designated portal.

After registration, they could provide khatian and jot-related information, determine the tax amount, and pay via mobile banking or card. The ministry's message said that paying land development tax online would help secure one's land.

He said that the MoL issued a directive urging all land owners across the country to pay their outstanding land development taxes on due time to avoid paying additional amount of money as a fine for delay of paying taxes.

If the tax is not paid within the fiscal year, interest may be added to the arrears in accordance with the law. The government fiscal year ends on June 30.

Paying taxes by this time is advisable to settle annual accounts and avoid legal complications. The MOL said that the citizens don't need to visit union land offices and stand in queues, saving both time and money following the introduction of the online system. The digital transformation will bring transparency to land tax collection and eliminate the dominance of middlemen, according to the MoL.
