Manikganj cattle markets abuzz with buyers

August 11, 2019 00:00:00

Selling and buying of sacrificial animals have already gained momentum in all the cattle markets of Manikganj district as only a day is left for the Holy Eid-ul-Azha, the second biggest religious festival of Muslims.

A huge number of sacrificial animals including bull, buffalo, oxen, goats and lambs were brought for selling in different markets of the district in the last week, reports BSS.

Traders said like previous years, a huge number of cattle are available in different markets in the district and their prices are reasonable this year.

A source at Manikganj district livestock office said the cattle markets are witnessing a record supply of sacrificial animals as farmers of the district boosted up production of local animals to meet its growing demand during Eid-ul-Azha festival.

According to the source, many farmers, especially the marginalised ones, have shown keen interest for rearing different animals including bulls, buffalo, goats and oxen after getting financial assistance from the government and also from non-government organisations (NGO).

Special security measures have been taken to maintain law and order in and around the cattle markets across the district, Superintendent of Police (SP) Rifat Rahman Shamim told the news agency.

"Apart from this step, we have deployed several teams of traffic police under a special traffic management network to control traffic congestion around cattle markets in the district town," he added.
