Mannan urges expatriates to invest in BD

Planning Minister M A Mannan has said favourable atmosphere is prevailing now in Bangladesh for investment and urged the expatriates to invest here and thus utilise their knowledge and experience for the country's development.

The minister made the call while addressing a day-long seminar styled 'NRB Engagement: The Way Forward' at the LaGuardia Marriot Hotel in New York on Sunday, reports BSS.

Economic Relations Division (ERD) of the Ministry of Finance, a2i, Cabinet Division, ICT Division, USAID, UNDP, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bridge to Bangladesh were the co-organisers of the seminar, a press release said in Dhaka on Monday.

Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Masud Bin Momen and Consul General of Bangladesh Consulate in New York Sadia Faizunnesa attended the seminar as special guests.

Chairman of Bridge to Bangladesh Azadul Haque gave the address of welcome at the seminar.

Urging the expatriate Bangladeshis to participate in the development march of the country, Mannan said that the government is ready to provide all kinds of facilities to the investors including security, energy, power and infrastructure facilities.

He also mentioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working with generosity to improve the investment climate and also for the welfare of the expatriates.

He said, "Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has awarded us an independent nation and under the indomitable leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has reached the highway of development.

"Bangladesh is now the surprise of the world," said the planning minister.

Quoting recent Asian Development Outlook update of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Mannan said Bangladesh is now the fast growing economy in the Asia Pacific region.
