MEP Hi-Tech launches construction of Tk 2.0b electronics factory in Mirsarai

Construction work of a new electrical and electronics manufacturing factory officially began at the National Special Economic Zone (NSEZ) in Chattogram's Mirsarai on Sunday.

The MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Ltd launched the construction work on around 10 acres of land with the proposed investment of Tk 2.0 billion.

The factory will manufacture electrical wires, switches and sockets, fans, LED lights, circuit breakers and other electrical products.

To be established with entirely domestic investment, the project is expected to strengthen Bangladesh's technology-based manufacturing sector, expand local industrial capacity and create around 2,000 direct and indirect jobs upon full operation, according to a BEZA press release.

Managing Director of MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Ltd Dr Md Jahangir Alam Chaklader, Senior BEZA officials, directors of the company, representatives from government agencies, financial institutions and the business community were present at the groundbreaking ceremony.

According to Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), commercial production of the factory is scheduled to begin in January 2029 after completion of the construction work by December 2028.

Some 17 industrial units are already in production at the NSEZ, while around 20 others are under construction. The authority has also introduced time-bound development plans for investors to accelerate implementation of industrial projects under revised lease conditions.

MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Ltd, a concern of MEP Group established in 1974, had signed a land lease agreement with BEZA on February 18 this year to set up the factory at the NSEZ.
