National bee fair gets one day extension

FE Report | February 20, 2018 00:00:00

The National Bee Fair-2018 has been extended by one day until today (Tuesday) following a positive response both from the visitors and participants.

The fair kicked off at AKM Giasuddin Milky Auditorium in the capital on Sunday with 54 public and private institutions taking part. A total of 60 stalls have been set up to showcase and sell different varieties of honey at the venue of the fair.

The announcement to extend the fair was made at an event held at the auditorium in the capital's Khamarbari area. The fair will end at 12:00pm on the day.

The speakers, participants and visitors laid emphasis on ensuring the quality and safety of honey alongside increasing its production in the country as demand for safe, pure and good quality honey has been increasing.

Director General of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Md Abdul Aziz chaired the event. Senior Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah was present as the chief guest.

Abdul Jalil, a visitor, said: "We feel confident and interested to buy honey due to the national fair. I generally do not become interested to buy honey as we get impure honey processed with chemical in the market."

Sajib , proprietor of Sajib Mou Khamar, told the FE "The every visitor came our stall and asked us whether we were selling pure honey or not?"

"The farmland is decreasing day by day, so we have to think to expand the agriculture vertically. We have to ensure the food safety and nutrients while producing the food," said Senior Secretary Abdullah.

"We have to make a roadmap to expand the bee farming in the country," he added.
