A national industrial fair (NIF), first of its kind in the country, will be held in November aiming to promote the industrial sector further.

Apart from different committees and subcommittees, the industries ministry has already formed a coordination committee, headed by secretary in charge Md Abdul Halim, to hold the fair successfully.

Some 260 industrial units are expected to participate in the fair showcasing their goods.

When contacted, additional secretary of the ministry Salahuddin Mahmud said preparation for the fair is now going on. The move has been taken to expand the country's industrial sector further, he added.

The participating industrial units will display their products and will show how to produce their products, he said, adding that they will also present their services and social value of their goods.

"We will be able to make the country's people aware about the industrial sector and its present expansion," he mentioned.

A ministry official said, "Products to be put on display at the fair will help entrepreneurs promote their goods at home and abroad."

The fair will also help strengthen relationships among the entrepreneurs and business-to-business and business-to-people, he said, adding that a good number of visitors are expected to visit the upcoming expo.

The fair is likely to be held from November 01 to 07 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the weeklong fair.

The industries ministry has already sought permission from the housing and public works ministry for arranging the fair at BICC. Besides, a summary paper has been sent to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) for getting approval in the regard.

An info centre will be set up to provide information about the fair as per the demand of entrepreneurs. The industries ministry will seek invitation to allocate stalls among participating organisations.
